These products were first introduced in the early years when cars were first introduced and replaced horse-drawn carriages as a means of transportation. This category of products enables anyone to maintain their car's appearance quickly and easily by removing oxidation and restoring full color richness with wax protection. What it does, or what D SPEED does, is perform three paint correction processes in one step. When it comes to paint correction, there are three distinguished categories of products that use abrasive technology: compounds, polishing agents, and AIOs or All-in-One products (also called cleaner/wax or cleaner/sealant). 1: Compounds — These are the most aggressive products among the three categories. Used in car detailing and by do-it-yourself enthusiasts, compounds are used when the defects to be removed are deep, across the entire car, and/or the paint is very hard. Body shops — In the body shop world, compounds are mainly used as the first step to remove sanding marks after manual or machine sanding, to remove orange peel, surface roughness, dullness, sagging, and dirt in the paint or DIP. 2: Polishes — Available in medium, fine, and very fine grades. Polishes are less aggressive than compounds. Used in car detailing, polishing materials are typically used to test the paint to see if polishing will actually remove defects. This is called a test spot. If it is found that the paint will remove defects such as swirls, scratches, water spots, and oxidation as expected by the owner, the polish will be used for the first step instead of the compound. Factory paint is thin, and the best way during paint correction is to use the least aggressive processes to accomplish the task, thus removing defects while preserving as much factory paint as possible. Body shops — In the body shop world, polishing materials are usually used after any compound steps to improve results from the polishing step. Since polishing materials are less aggressive, they tend to achieve good and excellent results at a higher level of finish quality. Because new paint should not be sealed until at least 30 days after application, in most cases, after the polishing step, the task is complete. Sometimes, a body shop applies a non-abrasive glass coating over the paint after polishing to give a deep, wet gloss. Products used in body shops are called Body Shop Safe. This means they contain no components that can seal the paint surface or create surface tension, thus preventing fisheyes or other defects related to or resulting from contamination on the paint, in the airflow lines, or in the paint booth. 3: AIOs — or All-in-One products — use abrasive technology like compounds and polishes but, unlike compounds and polished coatings, AIOs also include protective components in the formula to seal the paint during use.
